Google has officially started issuing refunds or Stadia games, add-ons, and subscription fees (other than Stadia Pro) ahead of Google Stadia’s official shutdown that is currently slated to take place in January 2023.
According to the company’s newly updated Stadia shutdown FAQ, the refund process kicked off on Wednesday and Google will attempt to issue the refund to the original form of payment, but users will have to monitor their emails for any notifications related to refunds.
Google says you’ll get an email for each of those transactions, meaning that a single email will go out for each and every transaction, and if you’ve made more than 21 transactions then you can expect a single email that will summarize the refund attempts.
If Google can’t issue a refund to that form of payment, the company says it will email the Google account you used for a purchase and will detail the process of setting up another method to receive a refund.
For those who deleted their Google account: “we will still attempt to automatically refund the transaction to the original form of payment,” and if that is not a viable option the company requests that you reach out to the Stadia customer service team.
Google indicated that it anticipates the majority Stadia refunds will be processed by January 18th, 2023
