Ways to Give Your Pump a Good Service Life

The modern sprayer pump is used to produce a wide range of flow rates, pump PSI pressure, manufacturing material, and shaft rotation mounting and some of them have multiple power sources according to need. Various pump models are gasoline, hydraulic, electric, belt or pulley, PTO, pneumatic, and pedestal.

One should know about the different criteria for working of a pump such as the right specification of the pump (i.e. size, orientation, installation, power, etc.), the compatibility between pump and gasket materials with the spray chemical, and more.

    Different types of pumps

    • Centrifugal pump.

In this pump, the impeller is used to generate fluid flow. These pumps are useful in different fields and are strong, versatile, and widely used the pump. This pump is mainly used when you desire a high-rate flow or low-pressure flow. They also allow the granule particle to mix in the chemical. These pumps are available in 25 GPM to 1,400 GPM maximum flow rate with a 5 PSI to 150 PSI maximum pressure range.

    • Diaphragm pump.

This pump consists of a synthetic diaphragm to propel abrasive or corrosive fluid, all this separated from sensitive components of the pump. All these features make it a pump with good service life and proper chemical use. This pump is self-priming and is available in 0.6 GPM to 68 GPM maximum flow rate with a 50 PSI to 725 PSI maximum pressure range.

    • Roller pump

It consists of an internal roller to drive the different spray fluids, affecting operational characteristics and application. This pump is extremely versatile and has a low cost, range of manufacturing materials, and overall pump simplicity. These are easy to maintain and operate. These self-priming pumps are available in 9GPM to 62 GPM maximum rate flow with a 50 PSI to 300 PSI maximum pressure range.

    • Transfer pump

These pumps are mainly used for high flow, bulk water movement, and de-watering of flooded environments. These have broad inlet and outlet which makes allows semi-solids and suspended solution fluid. This pump is non-priming or self-priming and is available in 40 GPM to 484 GPM maximum rate flow with 28 PSI to 100 PSI maximum range pressure.

    • Piston pump

It consists of a piston mechanism that compresses the system fluid and pushes it out through the nozzle. It provides optative consistency in nozzle output at high pressure. They are good for horizontal and vertical delivery of water, within the cleaning, fertilizers, and pressure washing operation. They are designed for good service life as they include replaceable components and limited fluid contact. These self-priming pumps are available in 7 GPM to 68 GPM maximum rate flow with 120 PSI to 1,015 PSI maximum range pressure.

    • Irrigation injection pump

This kind of pump is also known as a fertigation pump, used for controlled flow, metered stroke piston for the precise and repetitive flow of spray/ chemical material. They have a three-phase system that allows the precise transfer of three different at three different flow rates. These are self-priming pumps and are available in 0.5 GPM to 7.8 GPM maximum flow rate with 120 PSI to 150 PSI maximum range pressure.

    A common issue in pumps

There are various issues associated with pumps, some of them can be sorted by basic cleaning while some need a pump repair kit Graco 395. Some of the common issues and their maintenance are mentioned below:

    • Cleaning and storage of pumps is an important factor that prevents it from many potential problems. Always triple-risen, always neutralize, and clean the outside.
    • Filters are another main component of the pump, to focus on. Filters should be cleaned and overlooked daily to make sure they are intact. Make sure you are using the correct filter for your application, as different types of filters are found based on the viscosity of spray material, nozzle size, and application rate.
    • The relation between the nozzle and pressure is the main reason behind the performance, accuracy, and flow rate of the spray.
    • Pump maintenance is an important factor, the fitting should be greased after every 50 hours of operation. 400 hours of pump inspection is also suggested for the proper functioning of the pump.
    • By cleaning the tank and the traction unit you can maximize the use of the pump and sprayer.
